Sloppy

You know the music in this game are the only high points. I know it's a heavy metal game and it's supposed to be "Hardcore", but what's with all the arrows man? It looks so sloppy, and it's pretty much impossible to get chains.

Maybe you should make it with an medium, hard, and hardcore mode.

The animations are pretty simple too, I think you could make the characters body move, he/she looks so stiff.

MonoFlauta responds:

the idea as i already said in the description:
"Don't get mad if a lot of arrows come down, try to make circles and catch as many as you can doesn't matter if you do something wrong, you just will win a bit less of points."

Rehashed

I gave you a 4 because this game isn't really all that original, there are many games exactly like this, the only thing that's different about yours is the art work, which I must commend you on.

I feel I rate fairly, and don't give simple games like this 8s, 9s, and 10s. Show me some replayability and an original concept, and you'll get good grades.

Kenney responds:

Oh lighten up, I know you enjoyed it :)

Super fun

I really love this game, the music, the simplicity, the old school vibe.

I had a problem when shooting though, I don't know if anybody else had it. Sometimes I had to hold the space bar down, sometimes I had to keep smashing it down, and sometimes the gun would randomly stop shooting when I got an upgrade, which was frustrating as hell, especially when I had a bad ass weapon and I couldn't shoot it.

Might want to look into it, but I'll keep playing regardless.

ZEGMAN responds:

You're supposed to only hold one of the fire keys down.

Yee-Haw!

You need to fix these things, but I'm definitely going to keep playing.

I don't know if anybody else had this problem but I didn't see anybody else bring this to attention, but I can not shoot diagonally down left or right. When I tried to get the torch challenge done on the 2nd level, I couldn't do it for that reason. One of the torches is diagonally down, and Cactus McCoy is a fatty and can't fit through the hole.

Also you should extend the time challenges, I the challenges are supposed to be difficult, but did you test each level yourself before setting a time to beat? If you didn't you probably should, it never seems like I'll complete those because Cactus McCoy is again, a fatty and runs really slow, and take into account the enemigo battles at the end of the levels cut significant amounts of time off your final one, because we have to wait for THEM to drop down into the screen.

But other than that I really love this game, and I've been coming back day after day just to play it a little bit, it's those difficult yet fun challenges that keep me coming back for more. I hope to see future Cactus McCoy games, even if he's not a cactus he's won a special place in my heart. Not very many flash games have done that ;)

FliplineStudios responds:

Glad you're enjoying the game! We've heard of that problem with shooting diagonally, some keyboards have trouble with two arrow keys + "S", so maybe try switching the controls to Z and X instead to see if that helps. Diagonally down is pretty tough regardless though, it works best if you're jumping or walking forward.

We did test all of the time trials (the times are generally 10 seconds longer than our best times), though it seems that's still pretty difficult for most people, so that probably wasn't the best gauge to use for setting those... we'll keep that in mind for any sequels we might make so they're a bit more reasonable :) Thanks for playing!

I'm going to

keep this short, sweet, and to the point.

Artwork - This is the strongest point of your game.

Upgrades - Terrible, nothing seemed to make a difference. My rate of fire never seemed to change, the new weapons I got never made a bit of a difference. It was poorly executed, and it never seemed like the health upgrade gave me much at all which was frustrating because your constantly loosing life. +Damage never seemed to make the aerial enemies go down any faster.

Enemies - Just way too many of them, Helicopters, Boss Helicopters, Ground Soldiers, Bombers, Rocket Launchers. With all of them flooding the screen the entire time, It made the game look sloppy.

It really could use a lot of tweaking and upgrading before I play this again. This was a game with a bad ass sounding name that failed to deliver.

MindChamber responds:

Enemies flooding the screen was kinda the point of the game, but whatever dawg, we'll work on it thanks

I'm not impressed...

I really like everything Cuboy but I don't think this game really works. I almost feel as if you rushed a game, because this could have, and should be so much more. It would be fun to have an RPG element where we could walk around, talk to people, and hear Cuboys silly wit, collect items, along with this "Facebutting", lifting, and throwing.

There's nothing about this game that will keep me immersed and it lacks replayability

EdibleCastle responds:

fair enough. thanks for the comments

It's good

The music and sound effects in this game were really good, the game is kind of fun to play, but after a while it just seems slow and repetitive.

Maybe in your future games you can slowly get away from stick figures and lines and start using better back rounds. That's what would keep bringing me back to this series! :)

SiJaf responds:

Actually I am working on my master thesis and on some totally different games.

I'm really confused...

The four tutorial levels at the beginning were totally confusing and really didn't help explain the game. And then when I got to the game I really couldn't play because I didn't know what I was doing or what the hell was going on :/

TonyDowney responds:

Hmmm... we'll have to take that into consideration with our tutorial revamp we're doing tonight. It's a tough balance between hand-holding and discovery in a game as unique as this.

!!!

Dude this game was totally sweet! I wish it were an actuall gameboy game so I can take it on the road with me :D

raitendo responds:

I might try and get it ported to the iPhone!
